What Is Fluoride?
Fluoride is something we use to help strengthen your teeth to prevent tooth decay. It’s even strong enough to reverse the damage and effects of tooth decay. Fluoride is a natural mineral that’s used in a wide variety of oral treatments and products — including toothpaste and mouthwash! Fluoride is applied through this treatment to strengthen teeth, repair enamel, and fight against the causes of tooth decay. How Does Fluoride Treatment Work?
The procedure for fluoride treatment starts with a dentist applying a topical fluoride solution to your kid’s top and sides of each tooth with a small brush. Here at Elevate Dental, we use fluoride varnish, which is a highly concentrated form of fluoride. We apply it to your teeth’s surface to help avoid tooth decay, slow it down, or prevent it from getting too severe. This fluoride varnish will quickly harden once it touches saliva. Applying it is also completely painless, so your child will not feel too discomforted during the procedure. We advise parents to hold their child in their lap while facing (knee-to-knee) the dentist applying the varnish to help them feel more comfortable. Keep in mind that undergoing a fluoride treatment, while effective, can’t prevent cavities 100% of the time. We advise that you help your children develop the habit of brushing and flossing your kid’s teeth regularly, reduce the number of sweets they eat, and bring them to regular dentist’s checkups to protect their oral health. Why is Fluoride Treatment Important To Your Kids?
